Hello Members and Friends of the Williams Lake Studio Theatre Society!
We wish to send out a formal notice and invitation to our 2026 AGM, to be held on September 26th, 2026, at the Williams Lake Studio Theatre at 4100 Mackenzie Ave N.
Dinner will be BBQ provided by the current outgoing Board of Directors at 4pm and the meeting will begin at 5pm. Please RSVP so that we can make sure to provide enough food!
The following resolutions will be proposed at the meeting:
“Whereas the Society Board of Directors feels leadership and knowledge continuity is not being served by the current universal 1-year term limits for Board members; and the Society Board of Directors wishes to see a new election system established prior to the 2027 Annual General Meeting that allows for knowledge sharing via offset Director terms;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
Article 26(1) of the Society’s Constitution shall be replaced by the following:
*26. 1) Board Members shall be elected under the following schedule:
a) At the 2027 Annual General Meeting, the President, Secretary, and one Executive Director shall be elected to a two-year term, serving until the 2029 Annual General Meeting.
b) At the 2027 Annual General Meeting, the Vice-President, Treasurer, and two Executive Directors shall be elected to a one-year term, serving until the 2028 Annual General Meeting
c) At the 2028 Annual General Meeting, the Vice-President, Treasurer, and two Executive Directors shall be elected to a two-year term, serving until the 2030 Annual General Meeting
d) All Board Members after the above-mentioned AGM dates shall be elected to two-year terms when previous terms end.
Article 27(3) shall be added to the Society’s constitution:
*27. 3) A director elected to fill a vacancy with a balance remaining on the term shall serve only for the remainder of the unexpired term of the position being filled, after which the position shall be subject to election in accordance with the election schedule established by these bylaws.
This resolution and the changes described herein shall be effective once filed as per the requirements of the Societies Act of British Columbia.”
The Board is also proposing an increase in membership fees to take effect at the 2027 AGM (next year), to keep up with inflation and the rising costs associated with producing the high quality productions for which we are known. The proposed increases are as follows:
- Senior/Youth memberships increase from $5 to $10
- Individual memberships increase from $10 to $20
- Family memberships increase from $20 to $40
Please note, there will also be a change in the way the meeting is conducted. Members will be allotted 5 minutes of discussion time per topic in order to keep the meeting efficient and productive. Members will be asked to come to the aisle to line up at the podium in front of the audience to ensure that all questions are answered in order and that all voices are heard.
There will be a public forum, as there has been at all of our monthly meetings, before nominations and elections take place.
The meeting will conclude with the election of the next Board of Directors.
